Time Out 2005

An award-winning member of the Match family, Sosho’s shape and style would set it a class apart in any company. A cool, wide corridor leads to a wide communal area comprising a bar counter, glitterball and gas station mural, with a raised area at the back overlooking the bar for more intimate chat. The (enlarged and newly refurbished) downstairs lounge is used for private dos and special events. The drinks menu is the same Dale DeGroff humdinger generic to the Match chainc, changing according to the season. Many of the mixes (all around £6) are original: try Sam Jeveons’ Spacific Martini made with 42 Below Vodka or DeGroff’s own Perfect Agave with Cuervo Tradicional, lychee, strawberries and home-made ginger beer. Those are just the tip of a cool iceberg of stirred and shaken delights. Match’s own wines comprise the bulk of a modest list, whilst beers are limited to bottles of Proof or Pilsen. Entrance fees are charged on DJ nights, such as Friday’s Weekending (£4 from 9pm) or Saturday’s Mindfluid (£5 from 9pm). There are superior bar snacks and dinners too, such as teriyaki salmon skewers (£4) or herb-roasted North Sea cod and oyster mushrooms (£10.50).
